Full mouth rehabilitation is what we call it when the problem is no longer a single tooth. Years of grinding, acid erosion, untreated decay or multiple missing teeth can leave a mouth where the bite itself has collapsed: teeth worn short, the face shortened, chewing difficult, and every remaining tooth under stress it was not designed for.

Rebuilding this is a planning exercise before it is a clinical one. We assess the joint, the muscles, the bite relationship and every remaining tooth, then design a sequence: treating disease first, establishing a stable bite, and only then restoring form and appearance.

This is Dr. Jahnvi's core clinical interest. Reconstructive and cosmetic dentistry are treated as one discipline here: a rebuilt mouth has to work correctly first, and look natural as a consequence.

Signs you may need this

  • Teeth worn visibly short, flat or chipped across the whole arch
  • Multiple missing teeth in both jaws
  • Difficulty chewing on either side
  • Jaw joint pain, clicking, or frequent morning headaches
  • Several teeth needing crowns, extraction or root canals at once
  • A face that looks shortened, with deep lines at the mouth corners

What happens during your appointment

  1. Comprehensive assessment

Full digital imaging, photographs, bite records and an assessment of the jaw joint and muscles. Nothing is treated until the whole picture is understood.

  2. Treatment planning

You receive a written, staged plan with the sequence, timeline and cost of each phase, so you can see the whole path before committing to the first step.

  3. Disease control

Gum treatment, decay removal, root canals and extractions come first. Nothing is built on an unstable foundation.

  4. Establishing the bite

The correct vertical dimension and bite relationship are established and tested, often with temporary restorations you live with for a period.

  5. Definitive restoration

Crowns, bridges, implants and dentures are placed to the design that has already been tested and confirmed comfortable.

  6. Maintenance

A protective night guard where grinding was a factor, and a regular review schedule to protect the investment.

Why it is worth doing

  • Restores comfortable, efficient chewing across the whole mouth
  • Relieves jaw and muscle pain caused by a collapsed bite
  • Restores facial height and support lost to worn teeth
  • Protects remaining natural teeth from further overload
  • Planned and costed in stages, so it is manageable

Full Mouth Rehabilitation: common questions

The questions patients actually ask about this treatment, answered without the parts that only apply to someone else's case.

Typically several months, sometimes up to a year where implants and healing time are involved. It is deliberately staged. Each phase is completed and confirmed stable before the next begins.

No, and it should not be. Treating disease, stabilising the bite and then restoring is a sequence for good clinical reasons. It also means the cost is spread across stages rather than falling all at once.

Usually for the better. When teeth wear down, the lower third of the face shortens and lines around the mouth deepen. Restoring the correct vertical dimension restores that support. Most patients look rested rather than 'worked on'.

If more than a few teeth need significant work at the same time, treating them one at a time risks building each restoration to a bite that is itself wrong. A comprehensive assessment tells us which situation you are in, and that assessment is worth having before starting piecemeal treatment.
