Tooth jewellery is a small decorative crystal bonded onto the front surface of a tooth using the same adhesive technology as an orthodontic bracket. There is no drilling, no anaesthetic, and nothing is removed from the tooth.

It is entirely reversible. When you want it off, it is polished away in a few minutes and the enamel underneath is untouched.

What happens during your appointment

  1. Choosing placement

You pick the crystal and where it sits, usually an upper lateral incisor or canine, where it catches the light when you smile.

  2. Surface preparation

The spot is cleaned and conditioned with a mild etchant. Nothing is drilled or removed.

  3. Bonding

The crystal is bonded with dental adhesive and cured with a light. It sets in seconds.

Why it is worth doing

  • Completely painless, with no anaesthetic
  • No drilling, so the tooth structure is untouched
  • Fully reversible with no lasting mark
  • Takes under 20 minutes
  • Typically stays in place for several months to a year or more

Aftercare

  • Avoid biting directly into hard food with that tooth for 24 hours
  • Brush normally, but gently around the crystal
  • Clean carefully around the edge, because plaque collects there
  • If it comes off, it can simply be re-bonded

Tooth Jewellery: common questions

The questions patients actually ask about this treatment, answered without the parts that only apply to someone else's case.

No. Nothing is drilled and no enamel is removed. It is bonded to the surface, the same way an orthodontic bracket is, and polished off cleanly when removed.

Usually several months to a year or more. It can come off earlier if you bite something hard directly with that tooth, and if it does, it can be re-bonded.

Not at all. No anaesthetic is needed and the whole appointment takes about fifteen minutes.
